seasonal storage
Tips for those of you that store your car for a season:
Before storing, pour in a bottle of STA-BIL fuel stabilizer, isopropyl dry gas and top up the tank with fuel. Drive the car a few minutes after adding chemicals to protect all fuel system components.
If the weather is wet, warming up your brakes by dragging them lightly the last hundred yards or so, will help dry the brakes and discs and help prevent rust damage on these components during storage.
The storage garage should be dry and rodent free. Scatter a few moth balls around the storage area, mice don't like them. Rumor has it a few dryer sheets in the car and under the hood helps to keep them away also
The battery should be disconnected and removed from the vehicle or a battery tender (a small inexpensive self-regulating electric charger) should be installed. Avoid the use of older battery chargers, if left on they usually boil all the acid out of the battery, some can also cause damage to electronics. Use care when jump starting also, we see damage caused by this also.
Increasing tire pressure to the max on the sidewall of the tire can help to keep them round, just remember to lower the pressure back down when you place your car back in service.
If storing the car for more than a season or two, more should be done. Call us for details!
